Ten km Quarter 2014

A lot of things changed since 2013 - the biggest of which is that I got married to Ekta. It was a fun wedding and we got a bunch of friends to go to Goa post the wedding. Good times !!

Another big development in 2013 was that I got to start swimming more regularly. I joined the swim life academy in Bangalore and swam every single day for the first 9 months of the year. The academy also got me to do my first triathlon in August 2013 which was great fun to train for and an absolutely brilliant experience.

The first quarter of this year started with 10kms on the treadmill. The weather has been pretty bad in Michigan and thus running outside is out of the question. I have been putting in about 40 kms a week but doing anything more that is simply not enjoyable on the treadmill.

Over the last year, I have realized that the only way I do better in my runs is to have a solid cross training program in place - yoga, swimming, cycling or tennis. Simply running alone is not doing it anymore. I have also realized the importance of running groups - always important to run with people who are better than you in terms of running and discipline.

This quarter has also been great in terms of partying/drinking beer. I have realized that it is impossible to switch on and off as I could do when I was younger. I have always felt that if I have to give up either fitness or beer, it would be beer to go first and thus the quantity and the frequency of consumption has been really low.

In terms of running goals, I will be running the Ann Arbor Half Marathon on March 30th. Another fitness goal for this year is to take up a teacher training program for yoga. There is nothing close to where we are right now and I have to travel atleast an hour for the classes but it may just be worth it.

Some great books that you might want to check out are -

a. One Day
b. Such a Long Journey
c. The Help
d. The Time Travellers Wife
