Sunfeast happens to be my first race after the D-fever. From March onwards, I have been attempting to follow several training plans, that would help me achieve my personal best in the Sunfeast. I would go 5 days into the plan and would not be able to do it any further because of my weak state.
Starting April 15th, after attempting several plans, I decided to throw it all out of the window and do my own thing. The training started off with 5kms, 5 days a week and then it was increased to 10+kms for 6 days a week. If I wanted to go on a long run, I would go out and do a long run. If I felt like staying in, I would stay in. It did not matter if it was morning or evening, day or night, if I felt like running, I ran.
During this process, I noticed that sometimes we are so fearful that we tend to follow the rules by the book. We talk to people who trained before and do it the way it has traditionally been done. You could surely use it as a framework but you need to read and experiment several training methods before you choose what is optimal for you. Like everything in life, with so many choices you could end up making a sub-optimal choice but eventually you will end up knowing what is best for you. The truth though is different people react differently to training and you need to choose what is best for you. It is important to do your own thing, and fine out what works for you and what does not. Be a rebel. Go ahead and make your mistakes. Enjoy running and do continue to burn the roads.
