Really really good run. My initial target was 1.50 minutes as it was the first race of the year and I was training primarily on the treadmill. However, I was able to cut it down to 1.46 (1.47 on clock) and the run like any other reinforced a lot of things that I had probably forgotten from racing.
Some of the learnings I managed to capture were -
a) Running like life is about setting and re-setting goals and targets and working towards them. A goal is like a pivot. You use it as a center point and work around it. Without a steady goal, you are all over the place. Targets need to be set based on level of prep and you need to be realistic about it.
b) You don't really speak to anyone during the race. However, you make a lot of friends and receive positive energy from people. It is very similar to a dance music festival but just more positive
c) Running helps you experience quaint towns. You run the town which means you feel the earth under it. There is no other way to experience a place than to run it.
d) The finish beer (this one brewed specially by Arcade brewing company) tastes sweet. I was tempted to have a few but stuck to one to avoid dehydrating myself.
e) I have a love hate relationship with 'running by myself'. The lonliness of the long distance gets to me around the 17th km but love it otherwise when I get to introspect and go into the parallels of running and life in general.
f) There is no other high in the world that I am aware of that parallels running. When my friends and acquaintences speak about drugs/alcohol, it is usually negative and weak in comparison. After moving out of Bangalore, my stand against drugs has become more aggressive than ever before to a point that I cannot be friends with people who use on a regular basis.
