Kaveri Trail, 8 Cylinders and No Free Drink

All you have to yell is "Race" and you will find atleast a 1000 folks registering, running, walking, crawling and grunting.

Everytime after the Chennai marathon, we take a vow that we will never run this race because it is so badly organized. I was put into a police van once and not allowed to complete the race because "my running" was disrupting traffic. All it takes now is an advertisement in the paper and if I am in town, I will surely break my promise. The race is an addiction that is hard to explain.

Whenever a runner does not have anything to hold onto, he goes out running. Whenever a runner is happy and wants to become a little more happier, he goes out running. Luckily, unlike alchohol, running is a upper which means you only become happier from whatever your current state is even long after the run is over and done. The first 3 minutes is usually hard but when you get into the groove of things, there is no stopping.

I hate running in loops. I love running on a long straight road which is never ending. The magic of a long straight road is that you run as far as you can and hitch a ride back. On the ride back you see the distance you have covered. The sights that you see while travelling in a car is extremely different from the sights you see while you are on your feet. On the ride back, there is a sense of accomplishment, a sense of achievement which again is hard to explain.

I learnt this very recently that there is nothing called a free drink. If you need a drink, you better work for it. If you need to binge on food, you better work for it..Believe me, you enjoy it a lot more.

The Kaveri Trail happens on Sunday. I am going in without too many expectations this time. I'll take it as it comes and try and do an even split. An even split means you divide the race into two halves and you run both of them at an equal speed. The hope is to get it done in 1:45 or less by firing all 8 cylinders in the last mile.
