Prefontaine, Plan and Difficult Race

Running a hard race is very similar to kissing death and passing through the clouds into heaven (or hell). It saps out everything you have and then takes you into a state of absolute bliss which is almost like intense meditation. You got to run it to feel it. Thousands of people have tried to describe it but unless you do it, you will never understand it. “Hard” is what is typically difficult for you. There is no real measure for it. It racing till a point that you break but continue to go on despite it.

I have been sleeping way too much these days and getting a lot of rest. I woke up at 7:45 am this morning to get a run and did a 5k starting at 8:00 pm. This evening will be another 5k run followed by rest tomorrow.

Sunday is the Sunfeast 10k and my only strategy is to keep up constant pace for the first 5k and then do fartleks for the next 5k. The plan is to run my heart out on the last 1k as though Prefontaine’s spirit possessed me. Lets see how it goes. I am hoping to get it done in 45 minutes like last year. Lets hope and pray that happens. Thank heavens that I have been sleeping well before races unlike last year where it was normal to lose sleep.

Not bad at all :) You were able to stick very close to your target time. What happened to the Championchip, lost it running too fast, or did not collect it?
