Cruise, Into the Wild and NCAA

The entire day yesterday, I was dreaming about running a fast 10k. I realized that I would be cramping up during the race for sure since I have been cramping up for the last two months. Doc says that it is due to the weakening of the core. My experiment yesterday, was to run on the cramps and just see how far it is possible to keep going. Despite the cramps, I could keep going for about 50 minutes at a pace I would call “cruise”. It is somewhere between 11 kmph to 13 kmph and the distance could have been about 10.5km in 50 minutes. Tej, was as usual his best in pushing me more yoga than my body would take.

My reading has picked up again since Monday. I have been reading two books – “Into the Wild” and “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy”. “Into the Wild” goes into my list of favorites. It is the story of Christopher McCandless and his lifestyle based on the minimalist principle. The book tries to answer the question of why a person who is semi-successful academically would give up everything he owned and disappear into Alaska. I would almost force (persuade) you to read this one.

Very few people know this but I spent 6 months during college doing the same. I chose not to have a house, my own mode of transportation and lived in campsites of canyons across Utah, Wyoming and Idaho. My reason behind doing this was to be truly nomadic and bonding with the desert. At the end of it, however, I was glad to rent an apartment, sip beers and watch NCAA.

I have seen the movie - in to the wild. Was kinda disheartening to see the dude die in the end.

That is theory of relativity in action, there is nothing to feel glad about renting an apartment and sip beers, but you were happy about it because of your living in campsites.
