Multiple Injuries, Yoga and A Calling

A few years ago running changed my way of life. It made me accept it as a religion, a way of life, made me confident and helped me see a life beyond partying and late nights. Even when all the chips were down, I could just go running and it would help me in gaining clarity about life. My running time is most personal and if I let you in, then you ought to be someone special.

The problem with running though was whenever I would run longer and faster, it would take me a while to recover and it was hard for me to do back-to- back runs. Not to mention the multiple injuries over the last 5 years – groin, shin splints, ITB, knee and ankles. Then yoga comes along. I met three people in the span of three months who mentioned of a certain yoga studio and also mentioned that it’s the coolest thing to do especially if I am that into cardio. After starting yoga, I have literally been flying in my runs. The recovery times are minimal and I can do a 5-7 k in the morning and do a 10k in the evening without any stress whatsoever. It is possible to draw comparison between cross fit (www.cross-fit.com) and even though cross-fit is with weights and more athletic, I find yoga to be a superior form of exercise. The risk of injury is much lower in yoga as compared to cross-fit and it helps you with breathing, stretching and strengthening which are all required for one to be a better runner.

Everything makes sense now…the dengue, attempting to do multiple runs with no success and thus the progress to yoga. It is possibly a calling too similar to running.
