A 5k Run Versus Hanging at a Coffee Shop

I walked up to coffee day on 100 feet road to meet Gaurav for a run at 7:00 pm. Looking at folks who were sipping coffee and hanging out, enjoying each others company, I told myself that it would be much easier to have a conversation and sip coffee if I was not into running. Back between 2001-2005, I would do tons of it. Practically every evening was spent in a coffee shop or a bar but conversations soon start to get empty. Gaurav was there to rescue when I was almost thinking about getting a coffee instead. We lazily stretched and started off telling each other that we need to just run slow and enjoy the run. However, before we knew it both of us were speeding and helping each other to open up our strides. The 5k run was done in 25 minutes with a strong stride to the finish back to coffee day. This time around a conversation on the run seemed to be much more fun than a conversation in the coffee shop.

Starting the run is always hard. The hardest part is to put your foot down from the bed and it probably the toughest mile of the entire run. Once you manage to do that, running just seems like floating in thin air.

The plan is to do a 30k tomorrow as a part of the Auroville training. I got guys who will run with me for different parts of the distance. This is great because all of them run at different paces and it will help me fluctuate my pace through the run.

Sunday evening will be spent with my cousin and some friends at Opus or elsewhere. Hopefully the beer will help my muscles recuperate.
