The Bangalore midnight marathon (and half) is up on December 13th. Although I am not hungry enough to run right away, it will be fun and challenging to finish the half in one hour and forty five minutes. The plan is to work on strength training and focus on the upper body before that and do the run with minimal running training. I lost a lot of muscle after the 100k run and for my clothes to fit better, its important to workout in the gym to get my upper body back in shape again.
Last night I was thinking about how I got into running. In 2004, I was drinking heavily and my girlfriend then called me an alcoholic for preferring drinking over going to visit her. I decided to quit drinking then but that never happened. I just decided to start running more seriously so that I could restrict drinking to once a week (sometimes four times:)). The strategy has worked well until now.
Similarly, a week before the ultra marathon (I had no clue then I was planning to run it), I hit on a girl after getting pasted. The girl was definitely worth it. The next morning I woke up with a hangover and then realized what I did. Since, I did not have her number, I sent her an email saying that I am sorry. She did not respond. I started to feel really guilty. A part of the reason I did the 100k was to redeem myself of the guilt. Unfortunately, she replied on Friday before the race telling me "that it is okay" and all that good stuff. However, by then I had committed to the 100k and I was excited to do it for other reasons such as the gurus of the ultra had accepted to run with me and fund raising for Asha.
Women plus beer make a lot of guys go crazy. Luckily, in my case, they just make me run harder and longer which is "fabulous".
