I am trying to choose between the NewYork and Singapore marathons this year. Ideally, I should be doing both of them and divide my year into two training sessions. However, since these marathons come too close to one another, I don't think that is possible. A personal policy is that I rest atleast 26 days after the completion of one marathon before I start thinking of another race.
Singapore is too flat for my liking. The route gets too monotonous and you work on the exact same muscles for the entire stretch. Its a great race, no doubt, but its just not my type of a race. I am keen on doing a race in the States mainly because I feel extremely comfortable to run in that country. Also, it will be a good way to visit all the B-Schools that I will be applying to this year.
Chennai is one of the worst places to train. It is humid, polluted and it is flat. There is very minimum chance to improve your substantially by training in this place. Why do I not leave then? I will when I get admitted to a business school hopefully in the later part of 2008. One of the reasons I will not apply to ISB or a B-school in India is because I want to be in the States / Europe where I can run races whenever I wish and wherever I wish. For everyone who says, Chennai/India is a great place to be - try running at 5:00 am for 6 months straight...It sucks!!
