Training Update

The mosquitoes in Chennai are a menace and the war between Shumit and the mosquito mafia is always on. This morning, I was running on marina and was feeling really strong while doing a speed interval workout. My longest interval was for four minutes with a minute rest in between.

Just when I was feeling strong and was thinking that I was developing speed, a mosquito walks into my mouth once again. I could not do much but to stop by the footpath and throw up. For a second it felt like a time when I was drunk outside a bar and was throwing up non-stop. Needless to say, the speed vanished and I had to trudge back to the finish point.

I also plan to alternate surfaces starting this week. There will be only two runs a week on the road and the rest of the runs will be either on the track or on the beach. I will require doing this to keep running all my life and stay away from knee injuries.

I have also been working out at the gym regularly and push weights atleast 4 times a week. I work on my abs and core muscles almost every single day and strech like there is no tomorrow. I need to stay in shape and out of injury as long as I can.

I might begin Yoga again and a lady from the hash – Nidhi Reddy has volunteered to help me with this on Wednesday mornings for an hour. I plan to start that sometime next week and work on some amazing stretches to reduce feeling sore at work.

The speed needs to improve asap and my running partner says that it is important to “Free my mind”. I guess my mind is pretty free and I need to focus on my strides everytime I run and avoid thinking about the pain…This is the only way I will be able to finish a marathon in less than 4 hours.
