Runners High Experience

Runner’s high is defined as a mental state of relaxation partnered with a mild pain cessation that occurs after 60-90 minutes of steady exercise. During my run this Saturday, I experienced it and it was a truly spiritual state of mind. At first, it seems like your first pint of beer but instead of fading it builds up to the Saturday night 2:00 A.M. high, within the next fifteen minutes. Though I read about this feeling in a several running literature, I failed to experience it despite running long distances consistently.

The run smoothened out during the “high” period and I was able to do miles without any pain and lost the concept of time. I just went on and on until the gym owner asked me to stop because he felt that the machine would overheat. I had my ipod on and was listening to some black eyed peas and this definitely added to the affect. Since, Saturday I have been waking up at 3:30 a.m. desperately in search of this state of trance. I guess this is a good addiction to have !!!

hmmm... do you always need to be "high" on something? Getting high on running is great though... where's the reference btw? :)
