The feeling of walking into an event with regret in your head is worse than not participating at all. During the off season, you have people who you can go out with, you party it up until the wee hours of the morning, you end up dancing and drinking all night and its all cool. However, it is always important to know and understand that people hang out with you because you run and not because of you are the most fun person to hang with. If not for running (read: passion for anything), all of us would be clones without an identity.
The sport has helped me both professionally and personally. The friends I made on the run, helped me with my professional life as mentors, as people who gave me hope for a good career, and as people who hired me. We ended up chatting about running in almost all my job interviews. The best part about running with someone and striking a cord is that you never let each other down. You don't negotiate down the miles, you always negotiate it up !! And, this literally translates to delivering more than you can in your professional life.
Running has taught me a lot. One thing I am still waiting to learn from her is self-control. Self-control tor restrict my speed for the first few miles, self-control to reduce socializing etc. More than self-control, I am waiting for her to help me teach me to say “NO”. That is the hardest thing to do.
We ran a tough 10k yesterday followed by an hour of stretching. I went in this morning to play frisbee feeling much stronger than usual. It reflected in my game as well with three touchdowns.
