Cooking Dhal, Handling Teams and 3:30 Run

Even after working extremely hard at it, I lagged behind by 6km last week. Although, I hate giving reasons, I believe it was solely because of being sick due to the Diwali fireworks. This week’s schedule is easier compared to last week with about two speed workouts and the rest of it being long slow runs. I am not sure what I like of the two – The speed works are fun on the treadmill or well paved tracks and the long runs are entertaining on straight long roads.

After two weeks of training, I feel like I am getting strong and ready for the full marathon in 3 hours and 30 minutes. When you put your heart and soul into anything, it seems like you become really confident.

Managing people is really challenging and fun at the same time. Increasingly, I find myself leading teams and delivering more efficiently. It is a great challenge to get work done by other people as opposed to doing it yourself. Its like passing the ball to everyone on the court and making them score as opposed to you scoring all the time. You only score when you know that the other person really is not at a good angle/position to score and you are the best person to do the job. When someone can do it, give them the ball, shout out them to score and let them get the confidence of getting the shot in. That’s how you take the team to the next level altogether.

This week I learnt that there are different types of dhals and you can cook each of them differently. You have the toor dhal, the moong dhal and the chana dhal that can be extremely tasty. Instead of cooking the veggies separately, you could fry them in the pressure cooker, add spices, then add the dhal and pressure cook it. I believe it is tastier that way. Tonight, I am going to cook some bhendi fry and chana dhal. I also discovered that the friendly neighborhood kirana store is much much cheaper than your spencers. I am also officially shifting from white rice to brown rice today.
