Though it’s a little late, I just managed to get some time off to write my ultra experience. First things first, it is much more laid back compared to a marathon. Atleast, in my case, I never focused on the time…I badly wanted to complete a 100k.
We reached the venue around 4:00 pm and checked into a luxurious room in Our native village.
Beer-drinker Shumit: Drink a few pints and sleep
Running Shumit: Do the run fool. People will buy you free beer. Plus you have already announced to the world….so you better do it now
Beer –drinker Shumit: Machaaan………..
Runner Shumit: (Stops talking to beer-drinking Shumit and changes to running clothes/shoes immediately)
For the first 5 loops (12.5km each), I did not involve in too much conversation. I just listened to running stories/ occasionally debated a business idea and pitched in when the conversation revolved around women. My body was just moving following the pace of the group. Gaurav was nice enough to hold my water bottle and cycle with us. After the first loop, I thulped (ate greedily) a lot of pulav, curd rice and bananas. After the second loop, I thulped some tamarind rice, similar after the third and fourth loop. I can’t remember what I ate after the 5th, 6th and the 7th loop but it all tasted good. The 5th and the last lap were the hardest. I had to walk most of it that still makes me hit myself for not training and planning better. But there are always many next times and I know
However, beer-drinking Shumit never discouraged running Shumit during the run. Not once, did he tell running Shumit to stop. This proves my hypothesis that beer drinking and running compliment each other. They are complimentary goods and not competitive goods.
The moment the run got done, I got a great sports massage (courtesy B2F) and then headed out for a kingfisher good times. Wanted to eat something really oily and unhealthy but they only serve good healthy stuff at ONV.

Firstly, YOU ROCK!
Not sure how much you psyched yourself with RUNNING RUNNING AND ONLY RUNNING...but the result has been really really impressive!
How is that after this crazy act you 'still' sound hallucinated? ;-)) I can see that in your talk and your blog....adhu enna Anniyan maadhiri "Beer Drinking Shumit" and "Running Shumit"? There is only one Shumit - That's "A Crazy Shumit" (LOL)
You've done a astonishing job of running.....keep (s)miling!
RRRRRRRRUN!
