10k, Murakami and Nike Nishant

It was two full days since I did a run and yesterday I was determined to get a hard 10k run. I was meaning to run it in less than 50 minutes but after 5kms at 12.5 kmh, I felt that I had it in me to get it done in 45-46 minutes. Unfortunately, the realization came a little bit late and I was able to finish the 10k in 47 min 10 seconds. I am getting back to my sunfeast 10k speed and I am really happy about it. The rest of my night was spent re-reading parts of “Inspite of the Gods”

K.P.Suresh has offered to get me Murakami’s latest book, “What I think While I am Running” for Rs.300. It’s a great deal and I plan to consume it in the next two days.

While I was walking back home from the gym last evening, I bumped into Nishant, the guy from Nike. I like the dude just because he does a lot in his personal capacity for runners and other athletes. I found a kid once who competes for TamilNadu 800 mts who used to run without shoes. A mail was sent to the Chennai runners group requesting for shoes and Nishant responded by sending a pair of new Nikes for the kid. I’ve seen him on the basketball court watching kids play and then having a word with the coach several times. Although, I don’t know what the exact conversation is, I know it has to be about basketball and the kids. All of us in our personal capacity need to be sports scouts if we want a change in the sports scenario in the country.
