I was really tempted to run the Chennai marathon this sunday. Decided to call home and inform them that I am coming over for the run. My mom's question was "have you been practicing? how long is it?". I replied " no, i havent been training because of the knee and the race is a half marathon which is 21k". She responded advising "you don't want to run without training and you definitely don't want the injury to persist for too long".
My mom is not a runner but she is sensible and rational enough to know what happens if you do something without sufficient training. Simply decided to follow her advise and run it next year.
Did a 4k run last evening at the gym and a lot of strength training for the upper body. While running, I was comparing walking to running. Walking is like wine drinking - it takes a lot of wine to get you drunk and similarly it takes a lot of walking for your body to feel good. Running is like beer drinking - 10 kms and you are almost drained out, 2 bottles of beer and you are almost done (atleast in my case).
Planning on picking up Murakami's book on running this weekend and lap it up.

I think you should do a 7K and do some beer after that, sure you dont need training for both...!
