Since the Bangalore half marathon has been cancelled, my next race is going to be the Sunfeast 10k again in the same city. The goal this time is to get her done in 45 minutes.
Time-to-run.com has a great training schedule for their 10k and it is a 19 day program which is repeated for 6-8 weeks before the race. Training in the summer is hard (as it is in the winter, rainy season...training is always hard) but it also increases your endurance threshold.
A lot of us make up reasons not to train - its too hot, extremely polluted, its raining, personal problems, I don't like to race etc. One thing we fail to realize is that running is freedom. I try and leave everything behind when I go on my run these days - mobile phone, bike keys, wallet, laptop, work pressure, auto driver problems in Chennai. All of us ran at some point as kids. We quit not because we did not enjoy to run/play but because we just wanted to take the easy way out. Some of us quit playing altogether during our 10th grade/12th grade exams, some in college, some after they started to work. We fail to understand that life is just going to get tougher and if we want to beat it, we got to take the bull by its horns.
Go out and play. Play what you like. Play for an hour a day and you will feel like you are back to your childhood again. Atleast, thats how I feel when I train and I am at a point where I really miss not training more than anything else in the world
