It's better to burn out than to fade away

This Sunday (Oct 22nd) has been my favorite running day of the year…got up at 4 am and did a 17.5 km run along with Ram and Supratik. We hit Sangeetha’s for breakfast which included two vadas, four idlies, pongal and kumbakonam special coffee.

During the run, we bumped into this 75 year old man who is the Indian veteran 10 k champion and he mentioned the importance of asanas for running ( asanas not yoga ). He said things like pranayam was not good enough for running and if you want to strengthen your core running muscles ( legs, back, abdomens ), you better work on asanas. The guy runs over 10 kms every single day at a steady pace and did not have a single inch of fat on his body….he emphasized that the only way to improve speed and reduce chances of injury was work on asanas.

I wasn’t tired enough and got a small swim and some worked on some pool stretching….later the same evening did a 7 km hash run in the beautiful Madras country side. I have never seen that side of town and I feel in love with it just in the same manner that I fell in love with every part of Madras….met some wonderful people at the hash, drank three cans of kingfisher, ate some good home cooked gujurati food and was lucky enough to be one of the lead runners. I got named at the hash – “anal – ist”.

MDS*= F( 3kingfisher cans, 25 km run)

absolutely agree. pranayam is not enough to strengthen the physical body for your purpose. but asanas are part of yoga. how do you differentiate?
